Tomorrow the Classic Premier League game between GIANTS - Chelsea FC vs Manchester United FC

Chelsea FC “The Blues” are four points above Manchester United at the Summit of Premier League table. The game is one of the most significant, interesting and important.

Chelsea’s boss Roberto Di Matteo is aware of the game’s significance, describing it as a “classic”  and declaring his intention to build an advantage for his club on Manchester United’s recent defensive compilation.

Actually, as he has commented on an Interview “It’s a massive game for both club’s and a classic in fixture list, also Manchester United is conceding few goals and Chelsea has a big advantage, so we will try to exploit those weaknesses”

Although Fernando Torres won’t play tomorrow Di Matteo said the following which is very important “we know Manchester United very well and the games against them are always very difficult.  But we have to take advantage of hour home field and our home pitch and play with belief and confidence we have shown so far”

Manchester United fifth shirt sponsor - Chevrolet

Chevrolet the New Sponsor of Manchester United shirts

Manchester United announced that Chevrolet is to become the new shirt sponsors for the team in a seven - year contract. Car industry Chevrolet will be the fifth shirt sponsor in Manchester United's history.

The Sponsorship Contract

According to relative announcement the sponsorship contract  is starting from the 2014/15 season when the current deal with Aon expires.

Richard Arnold the Manchester United's  commercial director has mentioned on the Official Manchester United's web site that “This is a fantastic long - term deal for the club. We have beeb partners with Chevrolet for only six weeks, but already they have produced same fantastic ideas that will benefit both the partnership and our 657 million followers around the world”.

He also mentioned, that Chevrolet was a key partner on Manchester United's current tour, so the management team of car industry have enjoyed experiencing the buzz generated by Manchester United F.C.’s friends in South Africa, China and Continental Europe.

The benefits of Manchester United F.C. sponsorship

There are benefits not only for Manchester United but also for the brand name of sponsor - Chevrollet.

Among them, I can mention

1. Sport sponsorship creates a relationship between club and the brand name of the sponsor.

2. Sport sponsorship will increase brand awareness and a product or service associated with a sport team can be vary valuable for the sponsor.

Manchester United Initial Public Offering (IPO) on Wall Street

Manchester United - New York Stock Exchange (IPO)

According to Initial Public Offering (IPO) plan Manchester United shares will be listed on New York Stock Exchange (Wall Street) on Monday.

Manchester United F.C. is offering 8,333,334 Class A Ordinary Shares and the selling shareholder is offering 8,333,333 class A Ordinary Shares. Manchester United F.C. shares will trade under the symbol “MANU”.

Is being estimated that the owner’s of Manchester United will only use half of the club’s flotation on the stock market to reduce its debts. Glazer's family and the club will be selling half the IPO shares in offering that could raise as much as $ 333 millions.

On the other had - there are voices against Manchester United IPO in US Securities Market. According to Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST)  “ Supporters will be very angry about Manchester United. The Glazers have already cost United more than 550 million pounds in debt related fees and now another slap in the face as they help, themselves to half of the proposed IPO proceeds”.

Obviously, there are benefits but also threats in case of an IPO and especially when then listed shares belong to the most valuable sport club on earth.

In general the benefits and disadvantages for a company going public can be reported as .

Benefits of an IPO

1. Access to capital markets to fund growth

2. Creation of liquidity and potential exit for the current owners

3. Maximun value of the company

4. Enhancement of the company’s public profile

5. Improvement in debt finance terms

6. Extra assurances for partners, suppliers and clients

7. Enhanced loyalty of key personnel

8. Superior efficiency of the business

Disadvantages of an IPO

1. Dilution of Control. The control of the current shareholders ownership will be restricted and will be diluted in a public offering.

2.  Control of the company may shift and the company may face an unfriendly take over.

3. Earnings per share will be diluted

4. Disclosure of information - Company will become subject to periodic reporting and certain other requirements of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.

5. Underwriters expenses discounts and commissions, offering expenses, including legal and accounting fees, printing cost etc.

Also, there is another kind of risk, limited in case of Manchester United but is a possible event. If the offering is not consummated, the company may have to expense outlays incurred prior to termination of the offering.

Finally, an IPO is very attractive financial strategy for a fast growing company.

Apart from reactions or IPO support voices. Manchester United is our favorite and loved club we will always love and support it.

Problems or opportunities!

When we started creating oldtraffordbook we were dreaming about a new digital community a new digital sevice to connect millions of Manchester United friends.

It was like a fairy tale. Without real strong resources, far away from United Kigdom and the most important of all we where the first to try a social networking site as oldtraffordbook.com is!

Honestly after a year the lessons and experience that we have gain are valuable. The valuation of the site according to recent reports is beyond my estimations and forecasts in realtion with time and resources used. 

In my oppinion it was only the beginning. A non profit social networking site to check the waters. 

To see if our conceptions have a value, if we can develop a digital product and most of all to apply our skills in the field of internet marketing. 

So, after a year. I can say "Happy Birthday" !
